politics @lemmy.world•Orban's chances of winning Hungary election drop after JD Vance rally
14·7 days agoThat’s the kinda meddling we need.
Yes but the South China Sea dispute has been around since 1899. It’s just been in focus more now due to more intervention by China.
Name any country that China has invaded in the this decade compared to the US.
It is just so depressing the continous negative propaganda about China, mostly perpetuated by the US, where if you come visit China, visa free for most countries BTW, you’ll be amazed.
I know the obsession with the media and commentators about Taiwan. Almost begging China to invade because than they can point at them as the new evil and say ‘I told you so’.
However anyone who really follows the political situation in China, knows Xi is in all kinds of trouble and has no support for any invasion or war. From within the highest level of government. The focus is on economic growth and development.
China is playing its soft power well. After the US abandoned the WHO, China stepped in and pledged 500 million US$. But this doesn’t suit the narrative so never gets reported.

China will be fossil fuel free by 2060. And believe me, the Chinese will stick to their 5, 15 and 25 year plan. Actually they already exceeded their target for 2030, last year 2025.

News@lemmy.world•Testing suggests Google's AI Overviews tell millions of lies per hour
9·10 days agoBrowsing is so much worse now. Note I don’t use Google but Duck and turned all the AI shit off. Before Duck also had an AI overview and so many times I had to find actual different sites to verify the information. Wasted so much time. AI truly made everything worse. I had such a simple app to control my curtains. Now it’s fucked by adding an AI POS assistant that takes up the whole main page.
Urgh I hate this enshittification in the name of progress.

22·12 days agoDon’t people ever wonder like me how people would react if Obama would post something like this in his term? I mean, talk about unhinged. Other world leaders look at this shit and be even more resolved to move on without the US. There will be a long, long time to even rebuild 20% of the trust.
How can MAGA look at this and think ‘this is fine’?

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why is US rail travel so expensive?
271·15 days agoI truly don’t understand the railway network in the US. Living in China now and the high-speed railway is amazing here.
It takes 4 hours from the center of Shanghai to the center of Beijing and next year will be cut to under 3 hours.
And nothing to do with but the US is a big country. China actually has a larger landmass than the US and I can go from one side of the country to the other by high-speed train.
It’s cheaper, more comfortable than by plane. They even have high-speed sleeper trains now for these long journeys. Japan, South Korea, Europe, UK, and even African countries like Morocco have proper high-speed rail.
The lack of investment in infrastructure in the US puts it decades behind the rest of the world. I guess the money for infrastructure goes to worthy causes like invading Venezuela and Iran.
Edit: the continent of Africa is building a high speed railway network connecting 60 cities throughout the whole continent. That is how far the 3rd world country of the United States of America is behind. https://africanagenda.net/african-integrated-high-speed-rail-network/

Finally a good news story.
