A One Piece series animator has come to the defense of J.C. Staff’s anime show One-Punch Man after fans complained that the animation style on the most recent season still isn’t up to scratch since the show jumped studios.
“I think a lot of people blame J.C. Staff, but it’s a bit more complex,” said beloved animator Vincent Chansard during a live stream with KOL: Requiem on YouTube. Chansard is best known for working on anime projects such as One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen, Castlevania, and more. “Sometimes, it’s not about the animation studio; sometimes it’s about the production committee that is on top of everything.”
It’s almost always the production committee. At the same time, J.C. Staff leadership is not blameless. The studio doesn’t have a particularly good track record. They keep taking on projects that result in lackluster to poor animation. Often many at the same time too (and I’m guessing for bottom prices).
Of course, blaming the actual animators is dumb and stupid.
JC staff was never particularly good, but it was also never THIS bad though, they were perfectly mediocre, the To aru series and shokugeki no soma have their own sakuga parts on sakugabooru after all.
I’m legit surprised.
When I was reading the manga my takeaway was that the monster association arch was unanimatable due to the complexity of the monster designs. You’d have to go 3D models and those would look and move like ass.
They put about as much effort into the animation as Saitama does in his everyday life. Which is to say, almost none.
They had like 7 years to make the season.
Choosing jc staff again after season 2 was definitely a choice.
