This is sort of quietly becoming one of my favorites of the season.
The basic setup is really simple, but it’s playing out more subtly than that would imply. And Bertia is such a great character - she’s so kind and generous and earnest that she’s determined to be a proper villainess so that the heroine can win in the end, and she’s so kind and generous and earnest that she just sucks at actually being a villainess.
One would think though that with all of her experience with otome games, she’d recognize all of the flags that she and Cecil both keep running up. Probably she’s just so focused on the way the game is “supposed” to play out that she can’t see the way it really is playing out.
As a so-called “villainess connoisseur” I have to say that the idea of making “prince” extremely smart and villainess extremely silly was a very good idea. It’s funny, unique and cute!
Really enjoying this one. The main thing I’m missing is why Bertia wants to play the villainess role.
Cuz that’s the plot of the book that she read, in which everybody (apart from her) has a happy ending so she thinks that by following the original plot everyone will be fine? Idk
You’re probably right, but it’s not explicitly part of her character or even implicitly. Why let yourself suffer as if that’s the only viable path?
Maybe she really really liked the original plot? 🫠
