had an old TV with a broken LCD panel, and disassembled it to the backlight, with the intention of putting a poster and then a frame on top.
that is still the intention! but we wanted to see how well light transmits through various stuff, so we acquired a slightly stained pillowcase from a nearby residence that was being moved out of and put it on top with some clothespins, and it is actually kinda fun to draw on!!
continuing from this thread:
we have since decided to just use the factory driver board because lazy :3 (zip tied over the menu button so it stays on)

(this photo shows removing the IR receiver/status LED ribbon cable because it was annoying and in the way)
we also did want to hang it up, and found a little loop thing that could be put under one of the driver board screws!

and because we in the end opted to keep the original driver board:

and we can then put this thing on a wall!!

if you have any cool ideas for what we can do besides using this to frame a poster, write them below =3
Really cool! This looks like one of those light table that artists use to draw flip books! Like in this video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Un-BdBSOGKY
Maybe try to make an A4 size flip book! :P
Some nerd just showed me her photo negatives, and I remembered this post. So maybe those would be cool too. c:
Or some x-ray scans
oooo that sounds very fun as well. making a really big print of one is challenging though and we don’t have a whole lot of film photos at all. but maybe an old film reel cut up could be fun :)
Dang this is really cool! I wish I could think of some things you could do with it… maybe something shadow-puppet-y?
sadly the diffusion layers and sheer number of light sources work against that. due to how rear projection TVs work though perhaps what you are talking about can be done with one of them!! certainly gonna write down this thought for the future
also, thank you for the continued enthusiasm. it really really does mean a lot to us for someone to actually find what we do like… actually cool and interesting. ^//w//^
Aww :< At least it works for a poster light thingy tho :3
Also, don’t mention it <3 I love seeing cool STEM projects, and this is definitely one of those, not to mention it being a terrific way to minimise e-waste.
hell yeah! our specialties are pretty much all STEM stuff so that works out nicely hehehe
Wow bacon
FUN, also jst fun, i had too!!!
Get your X-rays and make those a permanent feature
we don’t have any medical x-ray images at our hand, but on our commute we do bike right past a place with various x-ray machines and SEMs that we may be able to get a radiograph of something interesting at. perhaps even part of the LCD timing board from the TV itself!
ty for the idea!!
fun, some rentgen equipment arent digital, and rentgenologists using boards with backlight like this
