Did you try the Flatpak or AppImage version? I used it for years (native version on Arch) and someday it stopped working for me because of my very unusual setup. Nowadays I’m on KDE and use Specacle, a similar and as good as Flameshot tool but obviously that won’t help you. If you still search a good and quick screenshot utility, then I can recommend Flameshot highly. But it should be working on your setup as Debian 10 or higher is supported, so who knows what the problem is. I’ve never been able to get this to work in a stock debain 12 / gnome environment.
