You (or Google Translate, I assume) used the wrong rule. 支配 is rule as in ruling over something. The correct rule would be 規則.
They usually use the foreign word for rule anyway (ルール)
I used Jisho, and just used whatever I found there.
That’s why you should check example phrases
I love the fact that it’s katakana, a script only used for foreign words, including anglizisms. So in order to make it look exotic, it’s a Japanese script, but one that’s used by Japanese for exotic words, which is fitting because it’s actually an English words. So by making it double exotic, they reveal the fact that it’s not exotic at all. Meta.
oh shit, I just now realize that it’s supposed to spell “Soul of coffee”.
I was super confused about all the weird mixing and just assumed my absolute beginner japanese skills were not good enough for whatever mix use case that was
It’s weird that it also has some hiragana thrown in there for kicks.

SAUL OF COFFEE
I have no idea what any of that means, but I’ve recognised the word “coffee” on the cup and everything else became irrelevant. I want one.
The cup is using Japanese letters that look somewhat like English letters to spell “Soul of Coffee”. The comment is how those letters are read in Japanese.
I’ve been learning Japanese for over two years now and English is not my native language. I had no idea what was going on.
I hate this
Ooooooh, that makes a lotta sense! I really should’ve abused my first ex’s willingness to share her knowledge of Japanese…
Edit: thank you!
All us former or present weebs that once learned Hiragana, Katakana, maybe 5 words and phrases, and basically nothing else, understand. (And the people actually speaking Japanese, too)
You can’t learn Japanese from anime alone
If you think you can then あなたはバカ
(Please do not reply to me in Japanese because I can’t communicate it in fluently yet because I’m still learning it)
Anime is a really good tool if it’s something you’re into. Just have a dictionary pulled up if you hear words you don’t know. I’ve been studying Japanese for ~5 years now and the first 2 years were mostly just listening to anime and doing kanji flashcards. You can get surprisingly far with just anime, but yeah it can’t be the only tool. 勉強は頑張ってください 🙂
You are stupid!
Oh, back then I totally also used… some websites I found on google. And, uhm… I think I remember printing out a torrented professional Japanese handbook, making a fancy folder to put it in and then… never actually using it. :D
As you can see, teenage/young adult me was very realistic and very committed!
Reminds me of probably the most pretentious thing I ever did: as a teenager in the late 90s, I tried to learn Russian in order to read Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky in the original 😆
I am committed to it right now but currently keeping an eye on a cyclone (hurricane for americans) to make sure it doesn’t hit land
Hoping it’ll just pass by
I do have a procrastination problem as well that I somehow need to get over
Oh and was it genki by chance that you tormented because lets just say I’m aware of there being torrents for it
Good luck, dealing with procrastination is hard, but it definitely is doable!
Oh and was it genki by chance that you tormented because lets just say I’m aware of there being torrents for it
Sadly, I genuinely don’t remember, was around 2010 or so, so quite a while back.
No wonder why I couldn’t read that, I was trying to read the Japanese because I’m learning it
It’s not Japanese, they really should not do that because their going to confuse a lot of bilingual folk
I ran into the same issue as you, but for me looking at the entire thing as opposed to individual kana helped
I’ve become so averse to this kinda branding to the point where I’d just prefer them to use a translated version I can’t read and some tiny English for anything important.
I’m not scared of kanji! If you’re gonna lean into Asian languages for your marketing just use the damn languages properly!!!
Reminds me of the game Contraband Police that used Cyrillic Соитяaьаид on the poster which reads “Soityaa’aid Police”
no one who likes scripture would do this. no one who doens’t like scripture should get money for that.
Imagina if terochichimomo was the actual name of coffee in Japanese (?). Pretty crazy.
Do these starbucks like drink can be even thought as a “coffee”? I remember trying out Starbucks once and I have felt barely any energy increase
“Is Starbucks even coffe3???”
Yeah man, it’s made with coffee beans and it’s got caffeine in it. Some people don’t need a whole ton of caffeine to feel it.
If you want to feel something, try their cold brews
Shhhhh, you cant go against the hivemind! Starbucks bad, ok?
Starbucks-like drink
picture of a latte on ice
???
I mean Starbucks coffee tastes like extra-burnt charcoal I’ll give you that, but I don’t think an iced latte is a far out drink or anything…
I dunno man, for me it’s as simple as “does it taste good?” “It does? Good.” And I like coffee flavor in sweets and desserts.
No.
It’s not about drinking a coffee. It’s about coughing a drink.

Thoth?
Yep! Meaning that “Θώθ, what’s this?” is a perfectly valid question to ask the God of knowledge.
Enjoy your curse of eldritch knowledge!
The what??? Loool
Based on context clues, they sounded out the name or sound of each characted used in “soul of coffee”
Yup, that’s how the katakana/hiragana would be spoken aloud. Source: I only do these on Duolingo to keep up my streak
Coffee Domination
I’ve seen this video already.
