I think there are two major purposes in government. First, protection for its citizens. This includes military protection from hostile foreign powers and domestic protection from interpersonal crime and systemic violence as well as providing safety nets.

The second is creation, protection, and maintenance of public infrastructure, including transportation arteries, healthcare systems, etc.

Furthermore, government should be centered around protecting all its citizens, not just the richest.

It really is! I ran out of ammo yesterday when I was shooting up an Oklahoma daycare center. Walked across the street to the Walmart and got another 50 rounds of 7.62 from the vending machine. I was back to shooting toddlers in like 5 minutes flat! So convenient!

Gluten intolerant person here. It’s like any other allergies where it runs the gambit. Most of us only have digestive issues if we eat it. Very rarely however, people will have the thing where they will just fucking explode into hives if someone breaks out a piece of bread in the same room as them. Just like peanut kid in elementary school.

That’s a really long one but pretty much every shitty trend since the 80s can be attributed back to him: Wage stagnation, climate inaction, police militarization, Middle East wars, no taxes for the wealthy, war on drugs, for profit prisons, elimination of pensions, union busting, media polarization, Iran-Contra affair, etc.

He was popular because he was charismatic but literally all of his policies hollowed out the country into what it is today.

Why do companies even buy ads in this space? There’s so many spots in our society where ads are just being injected to play for nobody. At what point do they figure out that it’s not worth the return on investment to put ads in those spots?

Not OP but I work in a similar environment (special heavy rail equipment). In our shop we have lots of tradesman: plumbers, mechanics, welders, electricians, etc.

Generally they are broken up into small teams, handed a set of prints, a kit of parts, and told to build the thing to the print. It’s not like an assembly line where you’re tightening one bolt all day, it’s more like building different Erector sets all day and handing them off to the next team.

Low stakes, high pay, good benefits, regular hours, low monotony. If higher Ed is not for you, I’d look into something like this.

Sometimes I have it re-write emails for me if I feel like my tone is off. Once in a blue moon I’ll use an LLM to write a trivial AHK script. I also use AI art bots for throwaway character art for NPCs in my D&D campaign.

I’ve been following your journey with this and I feel for you. I have mystery GI problems too (not as bad though) and my experience is that it’s nigh impossible to get a proper diagnosis for GI things because they all have the same batch of symptoms.

They threw the book at me, full colonoscopy, CAT scans, blood work, stool tests, etc. More than a year and $4000+ later the best I got was “Idk bro, good luck”.

I wound up doing an elimination diet on my own and found what foods trigger my issues. No real diagnosis beyond blanket IBS though.

You’re completely right. Many people are about to get totally financially ruined at a minimum. There’s going to be a lot of climate refugees from these areas who’ve lost everything.
