There goes the trust in US institutions for even more people.

So a lot more people would vote Trump if the only thing that changed in their policy was the stance on abortion? That’s disappointing, considering the policies and the plan of Project 2025.
Abandoning public services and privatizing them :(
The GDP of that household must be insane
Priorities.
Also, what’s a bit funny to me is they used the excuse of “homosexuality is a form of western colonialism”, but they’re taking notes directly from western far-right playbook here.
I wonder what would happen is this plan is successful and Trump actually gets the “technical win” - will the Democrats just give up the White House like that, will they refuse because Reps are playing dirty or will Democrats riot in the street? I’m actually curious if there’s any good option to fight back that isn’t “stop it before it happens”.
I’d say mail boxes, at least in the area where I live. Around 10 years ago, our neighborhood was mandated to have our own separate boxes for mail/newspaper next to our house, but before then you’d have one group box for the whole neighborhood, with separate sections for each house. It’s much more efficient for delivering that way since you just go to one box rather than door to door, though it can be a bit annoying having to walk to the box every day to get your daily newspaper.
Don’t get me wrong, I think that the left/right divide and talking shit about the right are both necessary. There are some right-wingers who aren’t idiots in the world, but most of the right-wing parties nowadays are just spreading hate and endangering certain groups of people while having policies that benefit the top crop.
My comment is about how while MAGA is a hate ideology and should be fought against, the anger shouldn’t be turned into personal attacks against regular people and should be directed towards ideology itself and people who benefit from it. It’s much harder to deprogram someone when the side that tries to deprogram them are actively shunning them on a personal level and calling them inherently terrible people, while it’s likely that the person joined MAGA because of their environment, similar to how religious communities and being born into them work.
Never really liked this argument, since it’s not really a contemporary political movement where you just read the policy and go “yup that sounds good”, it’s more akin to a cult with a large indoctrination campaign.
You have alternative news floating around on the same platforms as real ones, you’re told to not believe the “other side” as they’re all in league with one another and always lie, you can have coworkers or your community reinforce these things making it very hard to escape especially if you’ve been a part of it for years. The current ‘liberal politics’ and the living situation doesn’t help either too and does contribute to the general stress that makes people fall down these rabbitholes.
Granted, people who have a lot to benefit from MAGA and are acting as influencers for the movement should be rightfully hated, but not really regular people. I do believe that a lot of people who currently are going to (begrudgingly) vote for democrats could definitely be part of the MAGA cult given different environment (such as work, living area or community they’re part of).
Point is, hate the movement, not the people. While it’s very difficult, it’s possible to deradicalize someone and vilification is not really going to help with that.
It’s a place created as a home for jews pretty much by antisemites, with the main idea being “we’re okay with jews but only if they’re not in our country”.
There’s a lot of fascinating history about the creation of Israel by antisemites that you can find, but the gist is that zionism and antisemitism often go hand in hand, and it seems this has not really changed.
Yeah, that’s what you get with smaller communities, you tend to see the same people over and over.
I’m European, and my relatives often buy into and bring up the US crackhead conspiracy theories they saw on Facebook and from coworkers.
I was having an argument the other day concerning things like the weather machine conspiracy theory, chemtrails, and a bunch of shit about how the war in Ukraine is made up to steal money and how Zelenskiy was trying to abandon his country and flee because he’s a coward or whatever. A lot of US and Russian brainrot makes its way here I suppose.
Hey, don’t rewrite history - twitter was always notoriously bad, under Elon it surely got even worse though.
This is such a weird phenomena, but also a sad one. I’m assuming she does enjoy partying with drag queens but is so ashamed about it that she decides to compensate by rallying against them, sort of like how staunch anti-gay politicians are often caught in gay acts.
Or maybe it was just some drunken lapse of her “”“moral beliefs”“”, can’t really tell.
Yeah, though there’s also the phenomena of older folks generally being more against change and clinging in the past more, the idea being that you have less future to look forward to (since you’re closer to death than your birth) so instead you look towards the past and become nostalgic about it.
The resolutions are not likely to pass; even if they did pass the heavily pro-Israel Congress, they would likely be vetoed by President Joe Biden, who has been insistent on sending weapons to Israel with no strings attached.
Yeah, this is an absolute shame. He tried doing something similar shortly after the genocide had started, but everyone else currently in power just shut him down almost unanimously.
If politics and getting into power wasn’t 90% based on your wealth and connections, maybe US could have more people like Bernie trying to actually do good rather than trying to enrich or empower themselves.
Calling democrats “Blue MAGA”, at least currently is a stretch and a half since there is still a sizeable difference between the parties, but yeah - current democrats are getting real close to pre-2000’s republicans in everything except few policies.
As you have correctly pointed out, a lot of the American liberals are unquestionably supporting Kamala no matter what she does, and it’s just so frustrating to see. People can support and vote for a party but also be critical of it much like how you can have your favorite video game and have gripes with it that you hope could have been fixed, but I guess that’s taking a backseat in favour of “politics as team sports” where the only thing that matters is beating the other side.
That being said, choosing not to vote for dems because of this is stupid - even if democrats aren’t going to shift back to center, it’s a much better alternative for the average person (foreign or otherwise) than Trump becoming the dictator. Though I worry about the future of US politics - republicans who stay with Trump are numerous, and once he’s gone then another alt-right populist is going to come, one who’s even worse than Trump (while being younger and more lucid), and there is no guarantee democrats are going to have Kamala 2 to steal the momentum back or even be able to fight them.
I swear, you could have Hitler reincarnate with Himmler as vice president looking exactly the same as how they looked like in WW2 and use the exact same rhetoric, and the current undecided voters would still be equally clueless on who to vote for, assuming they’re actually undecided and not “closeted conservative voter who doesn’t want to look bad”.
I saw one of those right-wing propaganda videos talking exactly about this, saying how this is “Kamala’s America” and people voting for her condone Haitians eating ducks from parks and pet cats, and it was incredibly funny until I read the comments, with every single one 100% believing the claims without question. I wonder if those people are bots or are they just xenophobic enough for “Haitians eating pets” to make sense without question in their worldview.
Nah, you’re supposed to take them seriously and give them various platforms to speak on and beat them with FACTS and LOGIC because that’s what’s needed for a marketplace of ideas and functioning democracy.
In other unrelated news, fascism is now rising tremendously in the world.
