  • I mean, Lemmy is basically a big discussion forum to share links or get an argument going. You’re obviously gonna get more confrontations.

Bsky/Mastodon/Threads is strangers yelling their thoughts into the void in between posts about their cats or pictures of themselves. Not exactly a place where most people will go in with the intention of dissenting.

  • It was getting late for libs to start bringing up socialism to diagnose their fascist oligarchy. The USSR collapsed in the way most socialist states have collapsed: at gunpoint, after decades of siege, sabotage and outright insurrectionism sponsored or directly enacted by the US. It’s no accidentt that Vietnam, the DPRK and China have robust security states, you can’t survive the US without them.

  • Lemme tell the millions of children that have gone through the migrant camps, separated from their family, some of whom have disappeared, that their jailors aren’t fascists. Let me tell the latino women who have been forcibly neutered without their knowledge or consent that they’re trivializing fascism. Let’s go to those who were detained in Abu Ghraib, if any of them are still alive, that their abduction, rape, and torture by laughing US soldiers doesn’t count, it’s what happens to americans that’s worrying.

Honestly, this is the fucking smugness of somebody who knows they’re safe as long as they mask, because they’ve been safe as fascists have massively incarcerated and enslaved black people, as they’ve made ghettos of bipoc neighborhoods, as far right terrorists have shot up black churches and gay bars and lynchings are back on the up and up. Because that was trivial, what’s not trivial is if it can happen to them. Fuck dems fr.

While I think this is a good level headed take, you’re seriously underestimating how comfortable with fascism the average american voter truly is. If they readily accept “immigrants and queers did it” as an answer to their admittedly worsening living standards, when corporations are no longer even hiding their plunder, they were looking for a reason to turn on them anyway.

This is by design, and the democrats are just as much at fault. The US flag has been synonymous with torture, genocide, death squads, weaponized rape whether a Democrat or a Republican is at the helm, and it’s only been the so-called hard leftist minority struggling for change within the US. As long as they reaped a tiny sliver of benefit from global imperialism, they were happy to shut up and tug for a bigger slice of the pie.

Now that they hardly even get the crumbs, parts of the electorate want to continue as usual, another part wants to get the whole world again so the crumbs alone can fill them up. But the US, from the ground up, has been designed so that you can only get a progressive in power by accident. If a fascist can get elected and immediately start wielding near-absolute power, you were always a corporatocracy with a fascist contingency plan.
