AFAIK some signs of usage are on the gun and left on his hands from the pressure when firing shortly after the shot was fired? Also I thought every gun in the USA is labeled with a code to identify them? I thought because of this they could also sink the gun into some random river or water-body. I guess this would be hard to find.

I tend to agree. Automation exists so people can have more free-time. And going back to hand-crafting might exploit some workers in worse working conditions (sweatshops). Handcrafting might also endanger workers, contact with chemicals, sharp objects, heat and other dangers.

If the guy does not carry a phone or navigation system he could have the perfect escape? Maybe his car is spying on him though and is sending the data to the PRISM system.

I do not think they find many traces at the scene. The shooter even picked up his bullet casing before leaving.
