  • No one who wants to run in 2028 is going to run against the incumbent President unless that President is incredibly weak.

Biden in 2020 was solid, but even he had a close win over Trump. Biden 2022 was starting to show signs of wear (understandably so), but planning for 2024 made sense. Not my favorite choice, but I don’t think it was necessarily wrong. 2024 SOTU Biden scared Republicans so much they made up all sorts of drug rumors.

Jump to 1st Debate 2024 Biden. That was his first real misstep. Biden can recover from this.

Biden was far from my first choice in 2020, but he’s done a great job. He needs to get out there and prove it. Showcase what he’s done and pitch a plan for a future America.

Right now I don’t know if Biden can do that. I saw parts of it during the debate, but I want more. Biden should be able to convince his own party he has what it takes to win. Biden isn’t incredibly weak at the moment, but he’s getting weaker.

At the end of the day I’m voting for Biden (or his replacement) because I believe in Democrat policy. I’m not just voting “against Trump”, I believe Democratic policy is better for Americans and the American people. Republican policy, especially under Trump, isn’t even worth considering, it’s fascism and I don’t mean that hyperbolically.

If Biden can’t beat Democrats, Biden can’t beat Trump and that’s a big fuckin concern to me.

Also, since you’re looking for a name, Newsom has made it clear he is going to run in 2028. Will he run if Biden steps down? That’s debatable. It’s going to be a tough race and a loss in 2024 probably means no chance of running in 2028. There is a chance no one can beat Trump (and that’s even scarier).

(Also to anyone on the fence, Fuck Trump. Get your ass to the voting booth on election day and vote Biden.)

  • It’s a game I wanted to enjoy, and I had some amount of fun, but ultimately it just fell flat.

The Ori games were so much better while following the same basic gameplay, but Hollow Knight gets all the extra attention. I do think Hollow Knight is bad, it’s just a game that is ok, and by the next game will be enjoyable after they iron everything out.

The other possibility I assume is that there is something Souls-like about the game that I don’t get. I’ve only played DS3 and I found it boring quickly. I understood what the game wanted me to do, but I wasn’t having fun doing it. Maybe some folks do, but not for me.

  • Hollow Knight.

I played for probably a dozen hours or so, beat a few bosses and then just hit a boss I couldn’t beat. (Don’t recall which.) I would get to the boss and die almost immediately. Then I’d be sent back to a far away checkpoint. I’d slog back to the boss, and die. Repeat again.

I’ve played plenty of games like this. I get at some level that’s the point. The problem is that I wasn’t enjoying the game. I wasn’t making progress. Just repeating the same over and over again.

I’ve played and loved similar games. Super Meat Boy & Celeste? Excellent. Ori and the Blind Forest/Will of the Wisps? Top games.

By all accounts I feel like I should like Hollow Knight… but I just don’t feel they got it right.

  • Lol I’m the opposite. I won’t allow KOTOR slander. Don’t give a fuck about Mass Effect, you can trash it.

KOTOR had a great story and I was finally in the Star Wars universe, just flying around and exploring the universe.

I do admit the early part of the game is a bit slow, but once I was jumping from planet to planet it was awesome.

(Come to think of it I found Mass Effect equally boring when I started it. If it had been Star Wars I probably would have stuck with it, but since it wasn’t I just found it boring.)

Biden has an easy, but hopefully not too softball, interview scheduled for Friday (July 5th), with a transcript available that night and the full interview airing on Sunday.

The interview is with George Stephanopoulos who worked in the Clinton Whitehouse, so he will be favorable to Biden. However Biden needs to prove that the poor debate performance was a fluke, so it can’t just be softball questions.

Also the transcript being available earlier means everyone is going to be clear on the message (which is good in general) but also means the focus is going to be on performance.

If Democrats/Biden spend the next week embarrassed by that interview then Biden is probably done. The RNC holds their convention the following week, they’ll beat on Biden and you can either let them (wasting time/energy) or you can announce just as it gets started and suck the air out of their convention.

However I fully expect this interview to go well. This is a smart idea by Biden (the timing sucks, but he doesn’t have much of a choice). He needs to prove that debate was a fluke. This is exactly what you want to see from Biden. But it he fucks up again, it’s going to hurt.

Everyone knows Trump is a steaming pile of shit. People voting for him don’t care. Democrats will come out and support Biden, but you need the undecided voters (whomever they are) to go with them.

So to answer your question, I fully expect Biden to go all the way to the election. I’m not sure that’s what I want or that it’s the best idea, but Biden is taking the right steps to turn things around. This next week is an important one.

  • To be fair “have a beer with” is about trust.

If I can’t sit down with you, have a beer, and enjoy myself, I can’t trust you. A president is going to encounter unknown challenges and I need to trust them to solve it.

That being said Trump fails that test immediately. There is no version of “having a beer” with Trump where I could trust him.

Biden however? If you asked the average American what they know about Biden one of the top three answers is “having a beer”, it’s called “grabbing an ice cream” but the principal is the same.

  • We know Trump is a liar.

Biden had to prove he wasn’t feeble… and he failed at that.

Voting for Biden and his administration is still 100% the correct decision, but that debate isn’t going to convince any swing voters. If you want to use the incumbency advantage you need to convince folks you can stay the course for the next 4 years.

  • You know who just had the opportunity to focus on what Trump did (and is doing) wrong and flubbed it? Biden.

A vote for Biden is the easiest decision I’ll make this year. Biden and his administration are doing solid work and I want to see more of it. Trump ensures genocide in Gaza. Trump ensures even more horrible acts in Ukraine by Russia. Trump ensures an even further conservative Supreme Court, further destroying and reversing settled law. Another 4 years of Trump will be a disaster.

    But I know this already.

Any other generic Democrat would have kicked Trump’s ass last night. Trump tells a lie, they correct it. Biden got a few blows in but he flubbed so many more.

Look at abortion, a layup for Democrats. America as a whole agrees with Democrats on the issue. What did Biden do? Fumbled and wandered into something about immigration.

The focus on Biden because we want better. Biden is better. Prove it.

  • I guess if we get new games in the long run I don’t really mind, it just seems weird.

I played Yooka-Laylee on release and it was overall an enjoyable game. As I understand they fixed a number of bugs a few months after release, but by then us release day folks had beaten it (and reviewers reviewed it).

The first level of the game was excellent, the later levels felt more rushed (or at least lacking the same level of polish). Maybe the changes will be to those levels, although level layout is key so I don’t know if you can just resize/move things.

I played Impossible Lair about a year after release and thought it was awesome.

Based on this trailer I doubt I’ll play the original again, but maybe I can be convinced.
