If you abstain from voting then you’re basically lumping yourself in with people who don’t care or actually are fine with the status quo. If you cast a blank vote then you’re expressing your disapproval of all the candidates. Essentially saying “I’m willing to vote, but it won’t be for any of you guys”. This would make sense if the system worked but it doesn’t.

Why is there a lemmy.ml and a lemmygrad.ml?
So I need a lemmy.ml account if I want to comment on most things?
The death toll from communism comes from the black book of communism which was written by a staunch anti-communist who seeked out to prove communism killed 100 million people which is why it includes nazi deaths and people who weren’t even born as victims of communism.
People should vote to gauge strength, show solidarity with their movement and demonstrate how to those unaware that the system isn’t working and therefore requires replacing it with one that will.
“Tankies” don’t exist.
People who unironically use the word “tankie” would say it’s someone who uncritically supports communist governments, but if you ever look at someone using it, it’s always because they are uncritically against all communist governments and so they interpret nuance or historical understanding as blind loyalty to communism.
Oppopity@lemmygrad.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What do you think about the concept of lesser evil? (i.e. when faced with selecting from two immoral options, the less immoral one should be chosen.)4·1 month agoYeah “lesser evilism” always supposes the choice is being made in a vacuum where there’s only 2 options and nothing can be done about it later, there will never be another choice.
Obviously if you were presented with two options and that was it. You would always pick the lesser evil.
Damage mitigation isn’t the only thing. By voting for the party you support you’re showing solidarity with that movement and also demonstrating to everyone else how the system doesn’t work.
