  • Buddy. I am running a seven camera Frigate system with a Thinkpad X230t (2012). That is the ultimate thicc-pad with a chunky rotatable, foldable touchscreen, from 2012. Obsolete, but not on eBay, Google tpu USB dongle. Total system cost to me <$300 bucks. Oh, yeah I forgot to mention it runs my Home Assistant, Lyryion music server and Tailscale. I have a sneaky suspicion that thing is going to last for a couple more decades. It is Military grade hardware. Look it up. And if you walk into my kitchen. There’s a HA dashboard and control pane on it. It’s a touchscreen after all. You can even click the stylus/pen out of the side if your hands are greasy. There’s a recipes navigator/editor (Zim wiki) on the desktop. I don’t know. I personally think it is as stylish of a kitchen appliance as you can find. I guess it depends on your sensibilities.

  • Excuse my surprise here. I know nothing about this case. I never saw the tv show and don’t know this person. But, I am so surprised this rich famous guy gets 30 years when my entire 50 plus year life has been constantly peppered with stories of randos getting community service and probation for raping women, and even children. More than one of them have recieved supreme court appointments. What percent of convicted rapists get sentenced to 30 years or more in the USA? I asked AI and it claims less than 4%. Was he not in the right frat or something? Like, remember Brock the fratboy who raped an unconcious woman in a dumpster enclosure and got let off? I don’t understand what goes on, and I don’t trust it. That symbol of blind justice has a terrible conotation in this context.

I’m perhaps being too edgy, forgive me. But, you must see that even if this guy deserves 30 years, which I am not disputing. How is there such a wild variance in American “Justice” ? Its just wild to me.

  • Agreed. But Fyi, I’m not a home user, I own a small business. We have to train employees on Collabpra and other open source tools. Its not that hard. We have tons of collaborative, shared documents that our clients interact with. Cybersecurity is a thing, but its not all that difficult to not be slave, or involuntary contributor to the dark side.live by your principles or capitulate. I know which choice I’ll make. I also know that 90+% of people wouldn’t even consider the extra burden of defining, much less living on principles. That’s so sad.

  • Of course. Me too. I don’t just like bright all the time. I like control. For example in my living room, there are 17 light sources. Let’s say “bulbs” to stay out of the weeds. Nearly everyone of those 17 “bulbs” is dimmable and can be adjusted for color, or at least color temperature. One of my favorite presets is titled “chiller”. And that is exactly what it does. It “chills” you out All of the light sources are dimmed way down. None of them are set to “white”. Over here is pink, over there is amber up here is a cool blue. What it adds up to is a very dim, relaxed vibe with a ton of depth and you see everything. You can read a paper book. You can see expressions. It’s as if you were sitting on a west facing beach watching a sunset.
