Open Source@lemmy.ml•We should push other phone OEM's such as Fairphone and Samsung to work with PostmarketOS, GrapheneOS, and Ubuntu Touch
2·22 days agoSame and well, government & banking apps dont work. And there are sometimes other quirks with apps, so its not painless, but for the most part it’s okay.

5·26 days agoIts funny. They cut it so non-technical people don’t assume their message is secure when it isn’t. But these people are now not going to adopt signal since they don’t care and the convenience is more valuable than security.

6·26 days agoTbf linux has gone a long way to remove lot of the inertia. Also, with LLMs, its so much easier to use and learn Linux. Instead of chasing a problem for an hour on old forums you can get direct explanation and an answer in a minute.

121·1 month agoBe kind to others, the game is rigged against them. Propaganda has never been stronger and its everywhere.
Just yesterday I saw a video discussing how private equities buy up YouTube channels to seemingly both squeeze them for their worth and/or use their trust to push an agenda. E.g. fern & veritasium stood out to me the most.

2·2 months agoIs that info from the latest Motorola collab? I heard about the beef between GOS and e/os, but nothing directly about Fairphone itself.
My first experience with him I remember were some atheist clips of pretty much a convo you’d have in your head, very edgelord, very cringy to share, especially from older dude.
Then I saw some of his shows, which were very nice.
So I feel conflicted about him. I think he knows well, just is an OG edgelord hating just for the love of the game.

5·2 months agoConsider Fairphone. You pay a bit more for mid tier device, but hopefully (and so far seemingly) the money is being well spent.
Hair of the dog is the best medicine for hangover. Can’t have hangover if you’re drunk.
Not sure what should we call this kind of postponing.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Your phone is a snitch in your pocket, and the law won't save you. It's time to break the surveillance machine.
141·2 months agoFairphone 6 with e/OS can use its physical switch to disable camera & microphone. Its only SW disabling but it forces app that want to use it request it. There’s also privacy setting that gives apps fake geo data.
Its not perfect but any improvement is good.
Yeah but I might be remembering who said it.

Still, every update it still offered these apps. I also used to have this problem. If you just blindly clicked through an update it’ll install them.
