60 is such a nice highly composite number though!

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•If you want to live close to nature, don't move to the countryside. Move to water bodies or mountains instead.
2·6 days agoBut if you do get a decent amount of land in the country side like this, you can do alot of landscaping and turn it into something pretty.
I grew up surrounded by farmland, but we had wide variety of trees, grasses, and plants on our particular plot of land

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•A corner is an ontologically parasitic feature of a table that can't exist on its own.
2·10 days agoBut can a particular element exist, without another element or elementary particle. Like I feel like you can’t have hydrogen with out a proton and electron, and you can’t have an electron without implying the existence on a proton

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•requiring smartphones to be repairable is a really bad take
11·10 days agoMaybe it doesn’t need to be a law. But think it would be cooler if phones were more repairable or modular like desktop computers
Noob here, what’s wrong with curl | sh installs?
Grok is dumb because it is one of the least efficient models out there. If you’re just gonna do pointless role-playing use a smaller model that is fine tuned for role playing

10·11 days agoI mean, can anything exist entirely on its own?

Linux@lemmy.world•Ubuntu Linux Will Begin Landing AI Features Throughout The Next YearEnglish
641·14 days agoJust as long as it is local AI and optional. If I’m gonna have to connect my Ubuntu devices to some datacenter just for slop I didn’t ask for, I’m switching again
Yep, about evey month or so at a local children’s museum. I got a email at work decided to give it a try thinking maybe I’d meet a hot single mom or something.
But I actually do like helping the kids with their craft projects. It’s clear that someone of them don’t get the opportunity to really make a mess and build random stuff, I love be there to make that happen
My opinion
The good: Large Language AI models are a really useful tool.
The bad: harms the environment, steals people’s work, and can be easily misused

1·27 days agoI guess I have been using gemma4 fro more role playing games. Qwen3.5 seems to be better coder actually

11·1 month agoI also recommend gemma4 or qwen3.5. Both super solid in my experience for how lightweight they are

13·1 month agoIt’s a website that randomly plays YouTube videos with no YouTube view (so in theory you are the first viewer)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How to get good at tying knots/ropes as a beginner? Should I buy a book, watch youtube videos, or join some type of outdoorsman club?
3·2 months agoJust pick like 5 good knots and practice and use th as much as you can.
Mine are: Girth hitch Bowlin Figure 8 on a bite Alpine butterfly Some form of a taut line hitch
I think it helps if you have a hobby that requires knowing knots, rock climbing for me

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you feel that use of generative AI and LLMs is ever justifiable? If so, when and where? If not, why not?
11·2 months agoI feel like self hosting LLMs and GenAi is slightly better for the environment, definitely less environmental impact than gaming.
It just these massive datacenters and models. If people can just be a little more patient and specialized with their AI usage it saves so much electricity
I’m with ya there. I think a lot of the valid hate towards AI is is actually for Big Tech companies and data centers.
I support folks running less powerful locally hosted models on their own hardware, which I also do myself!
