Yeah those things rock. Lots of Vietnamese restaurants use them. Very simple, rock solid coffee, no filters required. Easier to clean than a french press and less likely to break. I do think they give a bit of a metallic flavor, but that suits the robusta beans they’re primarily used with

Oh yeah. The glass ones look nice, but they break allll the time. But I gotta wonder if the flavor of metal will effect the coffee. Having the coffee brew while mostly only contacting glass (no metal/plastic) is IMO part of what makes french press coffee good. There ought to be one that has a glass liner with a protective metal outer shell. I have no idea if this is actually a product because I lost faith in the french press for other reasons and went back to pourovers
Dude. This is just ransomware with better marketing.
If it spies on you until you pay the creator, that’s ransomware.
Yep, we already had a word for software that spies on you until you pay the creator—“ransomware.”
Tbh it’s really not that hard to get out of jury duty. If all else fails, just start handing out zines about juror nullification, they’ll ask you to leave.

News@lemmy.world•A looming ‘tsunami’ of church closings is poised to remake America
5·4 hours agoYeah. I used to work at a church until earlier this year.
There were basically no people my age or younger (30’s). Maybe like. Half a dozen total, out of a community of 200+ people. The church had this big set of classrooms upstairs that were totally unused because there were only 3-4 families with kids in the whole church community, so they shut down their Sunday School…
Even the main chapel didn’t fill up anymore. One of the oldest churches in the city, so everything had been set up a long time ago assuming that everything would keep growing at the same rate it was back then.

Hey, you can buy plenty of stuff besides just drugs (illegal weapons, human organs, enslaved/trafficked people)

31·5 hours agoYeah, you’ve basically understood it. I don’t mind people swearing. I don’t mind people not swearing. In both cases, because I don’t mind people doing whatever they want. People who want to swear, but also feel like they can’t/shouldn’t, are the ones who self censor. They’re being inauthentic to themselves and everyone else. I find it sad at best, unsettling and dystopian at worst.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most horribly aged comedy film of the 2000's?
3·5 hours ago“You couldn’t make that movie today. They’d take one look at the script and say hey. We can’t make this. This is Blazing Saddles, this is already a movie.” — Mel Brooks
It’s funny to me that part of the reason this movie feels racist now is because this movie was genuinely part of making the wider culture less racist. It worked!

6·5 hours agoMain exception being physical comedy. Some of those old silent films are hilarious, and just as funny now as when they came out 😂

4·5 hours agoIf they don’t want to swear they could say “freaking” rather than fucking like a good Christian middle schooler. They still want to swear, they’re just cowards who also want algorithmic engagement on corporate social media, and that’s the issue people have.

1·6 hours agoI think the idea that “better training = better LLM’s” is AI industry marketing hype. It’s a pretty shoddy technology on a basic level. There are applications in computer science of LLM tech, but this chatbot shit has got to stop.
