  • r/bald is an example of male centered body positivity. does it tend to be a little bit toxically positive? occasionally. however, the broad strokes are very healthy and deserve to be commended, especially as this is all ultimately a conversation about accepting what it means to perform masculinity in this day and age without bringing along a litany of toxically masculine traits. i genuinely appreciate what they’re doing and want to give them their roses as a male whose hair style is gender nonconforming. thank you, r/bald, for being kind, patient, and accepting of eachother

  • it’s just down the road from me. it’s a convergence point between a bunch of mining towns so it’s a bit of a significant labor organization point in central Appalachia. it’s also where Mother Jones founded the UMWA. also prior to European colonization it access between the Allegheny highlands and the great valley made it an ideal trading hub thanks to the New River, so it holds significance to indigenous rights organizers in Appalachia as well. the fact that the median income is $19k/yr is very much a policy choice of enforcing poverty

  • all of the major athletic shoe brands are up to shady shit because they profit from slave labor in the global south.

    • nike donates to conservatives in the US
    • adidas (who owns reebok) and asics furnish discounts to the IDF
    • puma stays out of politics directly, but should still be side eyed for how fairly their laborers are compensated. of the majors they probably win the “most least evil” award
    • under armour’s founders have been very active promoters of CPAC
    • new balance has a recent legacy of their ceo backing conservatives in the US but has since replaced him. side eye them
    • brooks outright provides shoes to the IDF

the only shoe companies that i feel genuinely comfortably recommending:

    • luna sandals
    • enda running shoes
    • veja
    • wildling
    • xero if you’re into court sports like pickleball or basketball

  • exactly. both parties fundamentally support and enable eachother. it’s a decision between coke and pepsi. not enough people are aware of ale-8 or are able to get the word out about ale-8 for ale-8 to become viable without fundamental systemic changes to how all of this works. so for the most part, you should be out in the streets normalizing that an annual choice between two cola products is an illusion of choice, and then when you cast your ballot do so with the perspective of what it is on that ballot that gives you more room to have conversations about ginger-ale, orange soda, citrus drink, sassparilla, or even water.

we have a problem in this country where somehow not enough people know the difference between the two parties, and at the same time not enough people know how little that difference truly is. if we want to change this we have to educate people, and if we want to do that we have to focus less on the teams and more on the rules that underlay the sport

  • the best thing you can do to resist it i think is make sure the people in your life know you value them for them and not for their aesthetic charm. everyone tell a friend right now that you think they’re funny, or that you apprecieate their kindness, or that you value their perspective, or anything that’s based on their persona and not their physical appearance. and if you are struck by someone’s physical charm, pause, and take a moment to notice their outfit and compliment that instead. their outfit required them to make choices about their personal sense of style
