I just started the project of sanitizing a lot of the metadata in my music library and adding musicbrainz ID’s. Adding new releases for obscure artists is no joke, especially when their online presence is almost nonexistent.

Great read. I wonder if there’s a possibly for open source tools to decode these types of marks? I can’t imagine it’s easy especially if a company like google is creating it so that they have proprietary access to the stored information

I looked at using my old Galaxy S10e to host some things and ran into this same issue. It depends on the device, but I found a video of a guy revmoving the battery and soldering in a special resistor or something to trick the phone into a) thinking the battery is installed and b) that the battery is not discharging and will stay powered on.

It’s been a minute since I’ve seen the video, but I think he gave an explanation of how it all works. Still on my to-do list for when I need a weekend project.

Fair enough. And yes the cleanliness of those machines can be problematic and require more care, but not enough to be an inconvenience to most people. But I agree with you on that in general as well as the cost aspect.

I am aware that those two phrases negate each other to some extent, however grinding the night before is still infinitely better than store-bought, pre-ground coffee. Just pointing out the small steps someone can make to improve their current setup. No need to overhaul the entire system you have for yourself if a couple small changes can get you to a better end product.

My own experience in coffee has always just been “use what you have until you understand the reason for updrading or changing your equipment.” Make baby steps along the way instead of changing everything at once is always my argument.

Been working in coffee for several years now. It started as a hobby which means I have about 6 different ways of making coffee at home. All that to say I can find very little wrong with these machines as long as your beans are decent quality and you’re grinding fresh for each pot.

Yes they rarely have any form of temp control and the hot plate leaves coffee tasting stale after a few hours of keeping it warm, but they’re consistent, albeit consistently mediocre.

And they come with the added bonus of being able to schedule the brew time which can be helpful for those rushed mornings.

I haven’t had any issues like that. It’s been pretty plug and play and I have it set up for some family that are accessing it from out of town. No problems except for the big cloudflare outage that happened a while ago.

call me crazy but I just use a couldflare tunnel since my domain is already provided through them. They make it really easy to add sub-domains attached to specific ports on the local machine and automatically adds the proper DNS entries. Additionally they have a ton of domain security/anti-bot measures you can set up.
