Avatar of Vengeance@lemmy.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Should Lemmy support karma and account age requirements for posting in communities?English41·5 days agoDownvotes don’t matter as much here anyways since you can get high quality content by sorting from new and muting some communities + instances. That’s not true of reddit’s garbage pile.
I’d like a sort by the most up + down votes total so I can see what made someone angry enough to bot or brigade at one time or another

Avatar of Vengeance@lemmy.mlOPto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Would you be more or less supportive of Iran if they were woke atheists who were fine with killing civilians & didn't announce defensive attacks or accept surrenders?English31·6 days agoThis kind of offbeat FOSS social media stuff can’t replace the major social media monopolies anyways, it serves a different purpose. People just need a backup and evasion from the US finance-tech-military cartel. If you try and put the screws on people who came to you looking for a better option, they’ll just flee. Nothing that can be done about the propaganda and advertising though & I reckon it is a bigger issue than the petty harassment and powermodding, which is mostly just deranged roleplaying
USA is the only country that can enact unilateral sanctions on others. It controls the world’s financial system since it absorbed the colonial empires as a result of WWII (I am heavily bowlderizing and abridging this watch the dang videos they’re long sorry)

It seems like something they do to reassure themselves. Then again, this network & Mastodon etc are well-known to intelligence contractors. If they had no presence posting + voting here they wouldn’t be doing their jobs.

How and why does his influence reach farther than so many others?English2·6 days agoI’m not Muslim either, but I am sincere when I return your salaam :)
Was raised secular protestant, I didn’t even get interested in the history of religion until the past couple years led me to delve into monetary history. Now I feel like I’ve been missing out on all the driving forces of ancient history and getting treated to glorified trivia
You’re already welcome to repost anything of mine and I’m interested to learn about that community as well, so thanks for mentioning it

Just consider the difference between your average Latino Catholic and your average Whitoid Evangelical. It’s apples to oranges.

Clearly we need to level about the basics. You said Iran is threatening other countries. The nations of the world not allied with the US are disappointed Iran didn’t finish the job. They responded to being attacked flagrantly in violation of international law. All of Iran’s actions were legal.
My question is should we obey religious law, international law, or should we pragmatically eliminate the sources of suffering in our world with what time we have left? Thank goodness that people like you will call yourselves Eurasian within 50 years and we will be less troubled by these questions

THEY ALREADY ARE SANCTIONED BY EVERYONE WHO WILL COMPLY
If you managed a functional economy after that,
They have
you would be culture bombed into revolution. Block that?
Just tried it. Didn’t work
Congratulations, you are also now a different flavor of DPRK.

Done by who? Done how? Tf does this mean
There are plenty of societies that have strong state-backed training and education programs. The AI narrative is majority a smokescreen for financialization and downsizing of firms and privatizarion of the state
Just like with the blockchain, China’s been the first to implement a version with an actual use - not financial speculation and buying drugs, and a more power and resource efficient version - of overhyped tech financial bubble buzzword technologies, because they don’t judge its utility differently than any other technology. They don’t have these religious financial cults around AI
They will likely be the only nation other than close regional SEA allies to implement AI in governance effectively instead of using it to somehow make servers using UI from 2014 worse + more insecure & strengthening the Tesla/Palantir/Anduril investor pitch " The Evil Privatized Government Has Anointed Us Chief Devourer of the State Social Services/Tech/Green Energy Budget" where everyone can stuff the 1 trillion dollars the fed prints daily for banks
First worlders who want to pull themselves back out of the hole somehow should stop focusing singlemindedly on minimum wage struggle and public debt, and start worrying about land reform, access to hours + employment, and public housing.
