Some folks eat an animals testicles also, humans are nasty. Get used to it.
People who eat chicken embryos probably shouldn’t be judgemental.
Rocky mountain oysters
I grew up with the understanding that using blood for pudding was called Black Pudding and the Scottish ate it. With a side of Haggis! 🏴
When I play Valheim the game says Black Soup tastes like: “A perfect balance of sweetness and acidity.”
Today I learned.
Blood sausage isn’t uncommon. We eat it in Belgium, France, Germany,… Delicious.
If you decide on rating animals, eat all of them. All the animals and all the parts of the animals.
They are not typically made with reindeer blood, as is incorrectly stated on Wikipedia. The alleged source for this claim even says so:
While most recipes use pig or cow blood, any sanguine supply will do. The Sami people of northern Norway use reindeer.
TIL there are still egregious errors on Wikipedia. I guess it could be a case of updated source?
I mean Sami are hungry, they’re not savages! Except I guess by some outdated definitions they are.
they’re not savages!
Did you think I somehow implied that they are? I’m confused
Well, it’s usually cow blood, but they are delicious. Just like blood sausage.
If you think these blood recipes are nasty, empty all food you have and don’t eat anything for 3-4 days. Then go to the store and get some blood food or ingredients and eat a blood dish. You’ll understand then very quickly why these became a thing nearly everywhere around the world. Hunger is the ultimate spice.
that explains tripe…and how hungry were early settlers to eat crayfish, they look like bugs.
crayfish IS bugs
So is Shrimps and both is tasty
I really enjoy baked or fried crickets.
So if I think they’re nasty, I’m wrong because I’m not starving enough? Not a great counterpoint. They’re still nasty in that scenario, just a helpful nasty.
Aaaaaand that’s how you know someone who has never starved before. Truly starved. The stomach has it’s own opinion when left empty long enough.
It’s good though, that you never had. I’ve been through a lot, but the trauma of starvation is a permanent one. It’s best you don’t ever see the perspective of why people made food from blood.
My point is that if you have to be starving to enjoy eating something, then its default descriptor is probably much closer to “nasty” than “delicious”
I absolutely concede the point that everything nutritious will taste good if you’re starved, and I’m glad to have never needed to rely on nasty tasting food to stay alive. I’m very lucky, no need to be adversarial about it
Not every disagreement is worth arguing about
Pretty much no comment in this entire thread is “worth” posting, including yours. What did you add to the discussion by saying that?

German “Black-Sour” traditional north eastern dish doesn’t taste half bad…
and if you butcher an animal… you have blood available… why not eat it instead of wasting it.
also… black pudding/blood sausages and stuff are amazing
If you’re gonna eat animals, eat all the edible bits.
Blood is good, a bazillion mosquitos can’t all be wrong
*buzzilion
I hear they’re really buzzing about it
Wait until you hear about flies from the farm.
Does their blood shake bring all the boys to the yard?
Fyi, blood can be used as a replacement for eggs in many recipes. I’ve even seen it used in savory macarons.
Hello this is your FBI agent. Please stay where you are, we will be there shortly.
Idk what’s worse if I think about it. When you think what eggs really are, blood almost seems more normal.
Mm, chicken periods
An egg is basically a queef.
What do you think a queef is?
Basically an egg.
Yolks on you…
A chunky queef if you will
Yum
Die gute Blutwurst!
Used to eat black quiche in France as a kid, eventually my parents asked, whats it made of…Chicken blood. Bloody delicious, no pun intended.

In my culture we have a sausage made mostly with blood. Quite tasty.
I think you will be hard pressed to find a European country which doesn’t have some sort of blood sausage/pudding.
No, I won’t. I don’t know how widespread that is and don’t actually care. I just mentioned “in my culture” to filter out crazies who like to scream “no, that’s super niche and nobody does that except you, weirdo!” Well, now I have crazies who shout “No, that’s super widespread and everyone does that” :) That happens. Not a big deal.

We have blood sausage (black pudding) in the UK, France (boudin noir, sanquette), Germany (schwarzsauer), Italy (biroldo), Poland (duck soup) and Spain (morcilla).
So it seems like “most places” tbh.
We do as well in Norway. Exactly the same as the british black pudding/sausage.
Same in Finland!
I’ve never tried the British stuff, but our blood sausage is pretty good. Goes very well with lingonberry jam. :)
Had some in a pub in England. It’s as good as identical to ours.
We got them in France too.
That’s great to hear! Did they offer any lingonberry jam though?
No. Part of a full English. Bacon, baked beans, etc.
It’s popular in many cultures. Love me some morcilla.
Mine too. I’ve tried it, but didn’t like the texture much.
It depends on what the butcher uses as a base.
You can fry it and it tastes different.
Your culture is white supremacy, yeah, I get it’s just a big sausage fest of awkward hand jobs, but I don’t think that’s what anyone means when they say sausage.
Seem like yours is hasty conclusion and nasty personality, but whom am I to judge?
I know the user. They are.
great with people with iron deficiency
They’d just have even more deficiency if you use their blood
One blood pancake with a side of iron deficient people, please!
Buh dum tiss.
We also have a few foods with blood in it in hungary. Most countries have them. Also fun bonus fact, because hungarian and finnish/estonian are related very distantly i understand their word for blood which is veri, for us its vér.
