Sometimes I have a moment of slight regret after taking an edible. Once you’ve chewed and swallowed it, there’s that moment where you don’t feel high yet but it is now inevitable that you’re going to get high, it’s too late to change your mind

Kinda the same as getting to the top of a really big waterside.

You’ve officially made your choice. It was something you wanted to do and it’s honestly going to be fun and there’s really nothing to regret. But you have made your choice.

Yeah, this advice is worthless if you don’t metabolize edibles as expected.

I get almost nothing out of edibles, to the point I have to take close to 1g to get anything, and that’s just not worth it.

I have never gotten high from an edible. It’s just dose dependent drowsiness, like taking Benadryl. Apparently some people don’t metabolize the cannabinoids correctly via the oral route.

I personally hate edibles, you have like an entire hour not knowing if you’re functional or not. with smoking you just turn into a human blob instantly.

That being said, it’s just personal preference and there are a lot of benefits to edibles.

I don’t care for them most of the time, but they are ideal when you’re about to get on a plane, or go to a movie theater, or theme park, or anywhere where you want to be high for a long time but can’t smoke.

I didn’t like it because I was well aware of the “wait before redosing just because it feels like it’s not working” advice, because that means that if I genuinely do take too small of a dose, I would waste two hours sitting around waiting for it to kick in before eating more.

With enough experience you know what to expect. I (try my best) to only get high friday evenings-sunday and I know what to expect after a four day break. It does require planning ahead an hour, and sometimes that sucks, but it beats stinking up the place.

Had a buddy back when I was a big pothead, he was always down to push it. He’d call me up, I’d be with a third friend, and he’d be like “Go get three blunt wraps and meet me wherever,” and so we’d just do it, and we’d meet him, and he’d be like “I got three different strains, we’re going to smoke all three of these blunts.” My friend and I would put up the fight, it was customary, but our buddy would say “What’s going to happen to you?” And that was always where the fight would leave us, and we’d acquiesce and a smoke three blunts, and we’d get super high and sit in the front bench seat of his Toyota Avalon listening to Ratatat.

I no longer smoke (or use marijuana at all), but I have many fond memories of my smoking days.

Hit my quota, I guess. Started bugging me out too often, even small amounts. It’s funny because I talked to my dad about it back in the day and he said the same thing happened to him, smoked a lot as a kid, and then it would just make him paranoid, so I guess it runs in the family.

I got some gummies on a trip once and when I read the dosing instructions it said “5mg per serving” right on the front. I knew that 10mg - 15mg is my sweet spot… so I ripped open the bag and ate 2 gummies. Then, after I swallowed I noticed on the back it said “Serving size: 1/5 piece”.

      That was a miserable night.

Sound advice. Also, if you dose acid and it isn’t working, check the time if you’re already high on marijuna. You don’t wanna think it’s been super long and take more when it’s actually been like 30 minutes. Happened to me. Lucky that it wasn’t a bad experience.

I don’t think people are downplaying them, what you’re replying to is good healthy advice. Also Lemmy skews left and modern leftists tend to take a harm reduction stance on drugs and speak very openly and non-judgementally about them.

It’s not being normalized, it’s being destigmatized, because it was already exceedingly normal. And it’s obviously not being downplayed, otherwise you wouldn’t have the opportunity to complain about people talking about it so openly.

There’s been a lot of fear mongering and misinformation about drugs since Nixon popularized the puritanical “all drugs are bad” idea in the 70s.

The reality is much more complex. There are all kinds of recreational drugs out there that can be taken safely without lasting damage or long term effects.

Many are actually safer than alcohol, some even offer significant benefits to mental and physical health if taken responsibly (see psychedelic use to combat depression, anxiety, and PTSD). And on the flip side, there are all kids of drugs that will fuck your body and life right up by either damaging your body and/or causing chemical dependancy.

Education is the key to determining which drugs are safe to take responsibility, and which drugs are not, and ensuring your environment is safe before dosing anything is also critical to safety.

        Source: I do drugs.

I remember an episode aired in Denmark many years ago having a health expert in a news studio talking about drugs and alcohol and ranked them on two parameters, how harmful they were on a personal level and on society level, and alcohol was ranked as the worst of these.

I think it was based on this study from UK.

Because drugs can be a hell of a lot fun if done safely. Obviously depends on the drug. Also, nothing has “become” so normalised because humans have been doing various drugs for thousands of years.

I’m not saying it’s for everyone, but I am saying that there must be something to it or people wouldn’t do it.

If they never cracked down on psychedelics in the 60s and 70s, then I bet the crack and heroin epidemics of the 80s and 90s would never have happened. Nor the ongoing fentanyl epidemic.

Ehh, this feels like some kinda survivorship bias / frequency fallacy. I’d argue the people that post and leave comments on social media are already way outside of the norm. It is a power law distribution when it comes to social media participation. Your outliers in this case are very likely outliers in other ways such as in opinions/thinking, risk taking, etc. Drugs really aren’t all that normalized. Sure all my friend circle is full of degenerates, but I am still going to be guarded about my “hobbies” when meeting new people.

Sometimes your mistake could be taking any at all, and then it triggers a weeks-long series of psychotic episodes that has you walking into the bathroom, taking off your shirt and wadding it up, so that you can use it to muffle your uncontrollable screaming

You might think that the entire world is fake. You might start talking like a robot. You might suddenly get into meditation like your life depends on it. You might even draw crazy doodles on your phone to help get you through it, like this big-chinned goblin with a strange name
