Tl;DR: Google X is a subset of Google for researching technology concepts. Taara used to be under Google X but is now spinning out to its own company.
Taara is spinning out of X to become an independent company with a mission to bring high-speed, affordable and abundant connectivity to people everywhere using beams of light.

Light is light (or just THz range of frequency), there are the reasons why it isn’t mainstream.
E.g. fog, heavy rain, snow, hot air “artifacts”, etc.Great, now we got two “X” companies.
