Hotdog sliced along length and fried flat on the pan… it may be controversial to some, but I’m a bit fan. It’s not like those sausages were gonna give you much snap anyways!

These were done in the air fryer. I have found that creates the best snap out of even the cheapest dogs.

review by an American: the aesthetic is right, but all the details are wrong. would definitely eat it, would never have thought to make it. fascinating to be on the other side of how other cultures must feel about our attempts at their cuisine

I’m sure someone somewhere has made that exact sandwich before, but not on purpose. that’s the kind of thing you make because you’re stoned or broke and it’s all you’ve got right now

American here, @FauxPseudo@lemmy.world. Don’t listen to this.

That shit looks great. Looks like a sourdough bun from Jack in the Box. I don’t eat a lot of food like this, maybe once or twice a year, but that there looks killer. Good job!

Another American here, sure it looks great, but that wasn’t the point of the comment. It’s that it’s not quite American food. I love malt vinegar as much as the next Anglophile but we don’t really use it here except for fish sometimes, and sure I’d fuck up a hot dog sandwich but I’ve never heard of one outside of a struggle meal.

Poor melted cheese and ranch dressing over it, then we’re closer. Also, this is clearly the kid’s meal.

Looks like a regular hamburger bun but toasted and used inside out so more like a grilled cheese outside. Kinda brilliant tbh

As a North Carolinian, and that’s as far as I go for the sake of anonymity,… this is mid-tier, as a southerner.

Two upside-down hamburger-buns, two fried hotdogs, two slices of cheese and fries, the “default” of sides. This entire “meal” is roughly $5 of food for $2 of sustenance and I think you deserve better for yourself.

American food? This is on the sloppier side of “American Food”, there’s more bread and starch on the plate than turnip greens, BBQ or at least some fried chicken, god forbid some stewed carrots or sweet potatoes or something.

    ALL THAT ASIDE

Homie toasted the buns upside down for extra crispness, and I bet being soft on the inside makes the chew interesting, and the fries aren’t exactly a low quality. The execution is top-tier, but I mean, come on.

This isn’t meant to represent any particular American dish. It’s just a vibe of things American. I can’t think of another country that could even offer something like this.

      Literally $2.40 of food.

I’m in Lesser Carolina. Just 40 minutes south of Charlotte. Maybe you would prefer Carolina Bird Dogs?

This is an elevated version of the 'clear out the last few things from the fridge to make it to payday" meals I remember from my childhood. Needs to be plated on a TV tray in a cigarette smelling room to complete the meal.

This is like someone in their 30s doing a YouTube about “having McDonald’s for the first time in my life”

It’s not a particular dish but a general American vibe. And as an American living in The South And having traveled around the world I can tell you this is the only place something like it could exist. Most countries don’t even offer the ingredients necessary to make it.

My only real question, is how is the cheese with the dogs? I usually go cheddar, I feel processed would be a bit tangy for dogs.

It’s what’s adding flavor. Think of it is adding the tang that mustard to ketchup would offer on a hot dog.

The fries look insanely good. The hot dogs with the hamburger bun is an interesting choice. I’ve never seen anyone do that before. Grilled cheese is usually just normal bread, not hamburger buns. Grilled cheeses normally don’t have anything thicker than a slice or two of turkey or ham. Great attempt imo.
