Fairy Mount and Devolver Digital explain why they are releasing their titles against what could be the biggest game launch of all time, and analysts weigh in on
I am one of the people giving zero fucks about GTA6, because it is not available on PC, it is far too expensive, and Rockstars illegal firing of employees disqualifies them from ever receiving a cent from me anyways. Maybe i’ll pirate it when it releases on PC in a few years, but if i need a GTA fix I am going to play GTA 4, Vice City or San Andreas (and GTA2 for the lulz)
As a PCGamer i don’t care about the GTA 6 release, so go ahead and release in November.
Seems like a great opportunity on PC. No GTA 6 there and no big multiplatform releases either because all of those made way for GTA.
only “big” release I can think of for the PC is WoW Forever.
And the discourse I’m hearing from the Wow guys is they literally do not care about GTA. Unless you’re my cousin who is, seemingly the only one of his group that will be getting both. If you play Wow, you have a PC and so, well, there ya go. Unless you have a PS5 as well lol
Contrast with the Silksong release where everyone was suddenly like “you know what, our game needs at 3 more months of development even though we’ve been at 1.0 grade for months.”
November? Oh, I’m excited for several things. I will probably be picking up Psycho Sleuth and Amnea28 around that time.
I’m also somewhat hopeful that Aliya 2 comes out then. It’s a big thing in China.
I am also monitoring Reverie Eclipse. The previous stuff made by this dev doesn’t inspire confidence, so I’m curious if this game will end up being a big blunder by November.
I am also patiently awaiting Become, a game that goes through the early life of you, the person reading this. It specifically goes through the challenges of how you won the first race you ever competed in.
And this one comes out a bit before November, but I’ll mention it anyway. Red Chat Ritual has a big “spooky village in the Deep South” vibe. It shows promise.
He continues: “If we wanted to make some noise, we’d do it in style. I’d invite Sam Houser to come face me in a karaoke joint of his choice. CEO to CEO. I’m pretty sure the code prevents the CEO of Rockstar from declining a rock-off challenge.”
What a reference. I thought that Tenacious D movie was overall pretty bad, but the musical segments at the beginning and end were phenomenal.
I’ve called the cops, they’re on their way.
The Pick of Destiny was pretty bad?! Oh man, agree to disagree. I’m not even a stoner and I love it.
Hey, to each their own. I’m not a stoner either, and I kind of assumed it was mandatory, but I’m glad you enjoyed it. I just wish it was more like the musical segments that bookended it.
I will give a legally binding guarantee to anyone that wants one that I won’t buy gta 6 in November.
In November of any year or just 2026? 😛
Good, having some options to look at over something that I don’t particularly care about is a good thing! I won’t be getting GTA6, nor could I be convinced to do so because that type of game is not my cuppa…Often indie games are more my vibe these days, as they don’t have big exploitative companies behind them!
There are plenty of gamers who are going to pass on GTA6, sure. But Rockstar is absolutely going to dominate the kind of gamer who pays full price on launch. Rockstar is going to vacuum up everyone who enjoys this type of game as well as anyone susceptible to FOMO or hype.
Fomo is especially stupid for a game like GTA. I can sort of get it for the average meme game out there, you’re probably going to miss part of the fun if you’re not playing when everyone else is, but GTA is
unfortunatelynot shutting down anytime soon. It’ll continue to milk its customers for the next decade and a half. The FOMO will operate much the same way as a hit movie or TV show. People are talking about it, including spoilers, when it’s brand new.
I get your point, and it’s definately part of it, but what could possibly have been “spoiled” in gta 5? The story was predictable throughout and no story mattered in the heists or other multiplayer content.
I can see a point in people wanting to be part of the conversation in the school yard though. However, there is absolutely no way I’m going to be talking about GTA by the watercooler at work…
I haven’t seen The Odyssey yet, and despite the story being several thousand years old and assigned reading in high school, I still don’t want people to discuss spoilers for it around me. I’ve got my reasons for having not seen it yet, but the best way to avoid that is to experience it when everyone else does. When GTA5 came out, I didn’t want to play it at sub-30 FPS on the consoles that it was available on at the time, so I waited the two years for the PC version; I was still upset that I walked through the room while my roommate was playing it on 360 and knew that there was a torture scene.
I’m way more interested in indie games than I am “AAA” titles that cost crazy amounts of money and come from companies that treat their devs like shit, then lay them off to make even more money.
Devolver aren’t exactly what I have in mind when thinking about “indie” games.
Why not? They publish indie game.
How can you be independent of a publisher, and have a publisher? Its not indie, its just smaller studios.
Because indie doesn’t mean independent. It means small studios with low budgets, kinda, sometimes it doesn’t even mean that (See Clair Obscur winning Best debut indie game despite not being self-published nor being low budget).
The issue with equating indie to independent of publisher means that Cyberpunk 2077 is indie, Destiny 2 was indie for a while. The entire Monster Hunter franchise is indie. And technically Stardew Valley wasn’t indie at release. Neither is Terraria. So the technical definition of indie doesn’t fit the expected definition of indie.
I don’t even understand why GTA VI is such a big thing. The gameplay formula has been the same since GTA 3. It’s nothing revolutionizing or a breakthrough in a specific setting. It’s a pretty standard game that looks good, but feels identical to any other GTA.
It’s a gameplay formula many people like (including mainstream crowds), a new GTA only comes out every few years which gives space to prevent that formula getting stale, and other AAA games are rarely able to implement that formula to the same scale and degree of detail. They tend to set a new standard from a technical standpoint.
I don’t much care for the series, but it’s not that surprising that it’s a big deal.
There are arguably only two other GTAs that will feel similar to this, and even those two can feel quite different from one another. GTA3, Vice City, and San Andreas are so much more arcadey than 4 and 5.
wow forever vs gta 6
